Lynfields Kiltuck’s offspring and their offspring

When Joan McKenna Sr., founder of Kerrymor Farm, died in a car accident in 1990, the farm’s Connemara breeding program mostly came to an end, despite stallion Lynfields Kiltuck being only 15.

Joan Jr. had her hands full finding places to board Kiltuck and his daughter, Kerrymor’s True Colors, in the Phoenix area while working an $18,000-a-year job at the start of her journalism career. Foxgove Farm did use Kiltuck for three breedings, producing three lovely foals, two of them carrying the Heaven’s Ridge farm name.

Joan Jr., Kiltuck and True Colors moved back to St. Louis in 1994, and that opened up a short window of time for Kiltuck to get two more mares in foal before his breeding career was over.

We want to thank the Connemara lovers who purchased or raised Kiltuck’s offspring and continued his family’s genes. These included Prospect, Bantry Bay, Glenmary, Dawn of Promise, and Ledgewood farms. Ledgewood’s owner, the late Kathy Manyo, ran into challenges in her life, too, but she always found ways to line up a variety of stallions for her Kiltuck mare, Heaven’s Ridge Mistykil Sunset. And we want to thank the late Pam Liddell, of Kynynmont Farm, who helped Kathy with her program.

We also want to honor those who gave their Kiltuck offspring the best of homes. Laura Hill was still taking care of and heaping praise on Ridgetop Raven when Raven was 35 in 2023 after the Hills bought her at age 3. Vickie Maris kept Kerrymor Madison healthy and happy from a youngster until he passed away at 32 in 2019.

It look months to gather this data of Kiltuck’s offspring, searching allbreedpedigree.com, tephra.se and current farm websites, plus farm websites that have been deleted but are still available in some form on the Wayback Machine. We also found offspring through Facebook and YouTube videos. We don’t have the stud books containing much of this information, and a fair number of the offspring are not registered.

More time was involved in typing all the data into a database.

And then it took many more hours to create the code that would generate this family tree list without doing it manually.

We’d love to see the American Connemara Pony Society put its database of registered Connemaras online and create similar code, allowing people to generate such a list in seconds by inputting a Connemara’s name. The ability to track things digitally really matters.

What our manual research journey did allow us to do was stumble over amazing owners all over the country whom we’ll never know but who clearly love and care deeply for their Connemaras. We salute you.
