The halfbred son of Thoroughbred Little Heaven and a Connemara mare is considered by some as the top show jumper of the 1900s — yes, the whole century.

The Connemara stallion, an import from Ireland, was the most popular Connemara sire in the United States from the mid-1950s through the mid-1970s. He sired 99 foals, including Lynfields Kiltuck and Kerrymor’s Autumn Hope.

Prospect’s Callahan

The gray stallion (1988, out of Claiborne’s Dulty by Kerrymor Finbarr) stood at Star-One Farm in Gambier, Ohio. He also competed in eventing and other disciplines.
Ledgewood's Rebel Star, 1998, out of Heaven's Ridge Mistykil Sunset. The sire is a mystery at the moment. He likely was Kathy Manyo's stallion, Pony Hollow Winter Rebel (given Rebel Star's name). The colt was sold to the Mandaus in South Carolina. (Photo by Kathy Manyo)

Ledgewood Farm Connemaras

Before the internet took off, Ledgewood Farm’s Kathy Manyo and Joan McKenna Jr. used to snail mail photocopies of their Connemaras to each other to show what mares, stallions and new offspring looked like.
Marian Molthan, MD, with Camus John's Gladiator, who lived at Foxglove Farm in this paddock in the mid-1980s. He had one foal for Doc, Foxglove Oscar Wild, out of Paula, a wild mustang, in 1987. Paula lived with Gladiator in this enclosure. Not sure who the white Connemara is in the photo. Gladiator was born in 1964 and would have been in his 20s in this photo.

Camus John’s Gladiator

The prolific stallion was tied for the top Connemara stallion in the US with 99 offspring, as of Stud Book XVII, published in 1981. He spent time at Foxglove Farm in Laveen, Arizona, in the mid-1980s.

Spring Ledge Irish Whiskey

The longtime stallion of Foxglove Farm in Laveen, Arizona, was trained across a range of disciplines (endurance, hunters, eventing, driving) and was a genuinely nice and unflappable Connemara.
An unidentified pony and Erin's Tullamore Dew (1986, out of Oak Hills Indecision by Spring Ledge Irish Whiskey) with owner Marian Molthan, MD, at Foxglove Farm in Laveen, Arizona in the late 1980s. Molly Brown, as she was called, went to Heaven's Ridge Farm in the Phoenix area. She had at least three foals.

Dr. Marian Molthan’s herd included a lot of Connemaras from Oak Hills Farm. Those ponies were awesome, as was her stallion, Spring Ledge Irish Whiskey.
